Crosbie for Southport

Mike Crosbie

" I’m not a politician – I’m your neighbor.”

My name is Mike Crosbie, and I’m running for Alderman in Ward 1. Southport is at a crossroads. While change is inevitable, how we respond to it is what truly matters.

Common Sense for a Changing Southport

Southport is growing, and with growth comes challenges. From managing infrastructure and preserving our coastal charm, to making smart decisions about development, our town is at a crossroads.

I bring a measured, practical approach to these challenges. With decades of public service experience and no political agenda, I  offer common-sense solutions that put residents first—not bureaucracy, not politics.

The only allegiance I have is to the people of Southport.  It’s about protecting what makes Southport special while making sure we’re prepared for what’s ahead. I understand that leadership means listening, learning, and leading with logic and fairness—not noise and division.

We don’t need extremes—we need experience. We don’t need slogans—we need solutions. That’s what I bring to the table.

Vote Mike Crosbie for Alderman – because common sense should always be our compass.

"Let's Protect What Makes Southport Special - Together."

My name is Mike Crosbie, and I am running for Alderman in Ward 1. My wife, Roxie, and I moved to Southport after spending most of our adult lives in Northern Virginia. We were seeking a better way of life and a greater sense of community, both of which we discovered here in Southport. We found the city to be not only beautiful and inviting but what resonated the most with us was the warmth and friendliness of the people who live here. We had clearly found our forever community.

Since graduating from college, I have worked in the public sector, first at the local level, and subsequently at the federal level. My nearly 34-year career was in local law enforcement in a highly populated county just outside of Washington, DC. After serving in multiple positions, I ultimately attained the command rank of Assistant Chief where I oversaw over two hundred employees. Over the years, I dealt directly with budget issues, personnel matters, planning, organizational changes, decision making and critical incidents. I served the citizens of my county well, and always with integrity, fairness, and compassion. Upon retiring, I worked as a contractor for the U.S. State Department in a job that continues to this day.

Anyone who cares for this city as much as I do would surely wish to take a snapshot and freeze it in time and I am certain those who grew up here feel the same way. We can do our best to manage change within our sphere of influence; however, some change is inevitable and beyond our control. The challenge is not so much stopping change or even going back in time, both futile endeavors, it is about anticipating, preparing, managing, and adapting to it so that the city is prepared for it when it ultimately and inevitably happens.

What I will endeavor to do for you and the city:

Seek alternative revenue streams to lessen the impact on taxpayers.

Empower the City Manager.

Retain the old City Hall/Courthouse building for city government purposes.

Create a business-friendly environment.

Seek equitable sales tax distributions.

Allow Southport communities with private roads to control them as they see fit.

Responsible growth.
